Skiing in Garfagnana
The ski resorts of Garfagnana includes three ski areas: Careggine, Casone di Profecchia and Passo delle Radici. The offer of slopes for alpine skiing and nordic skiing with various itineraries, is suitable mainly for less experienced skiers and families with children.
Skiing in Careggine
The plateau of Careggine is located near Lake Vagli, about 882 meters above sea level, in a landscape ranging from Appennino to the Apuan Alps. The ski slopes of Careggine are not difficult and are therefore ideal for beginners or for less experienced skiers who want simply to ski in total relaxation. A modern system of artificial snow allows skiing in the event of poor snow. The operation of the facility is entrusted to the hotel nearby.
Runs and installations:
- Three skilifts that can transport up to 2,000 people per hour
- Slopes for a total of about 5 km, two of which are in resort Formica (700 m) and three in resort Monte La Cima (3 km)
- Field school in resort Vianova
- A ring of 5 km cross-country skiing

Skiing in Casone di Profecchia
This small town is located in high Garfagnana, a few kilometers away from the Emilia Romagna. The ski resort, small, is up by 60 years and is particularly suitable for those beginning the practice of winter sports and for families with children. Indeed, it hosts wide slopes, a good ski school and it is not particularly overcrowded. The plants are equipped with a system of artificial snow. The operation of the facility is entrusted to the hotel-restaurant located a few meters from the slopes.

Skiing at Passo delle Radici
Located at 1589 m altitude, the Passo delle Radici is the highest inhabited pass of Appennino, on the border between Emilia Romagna and Tuscany, but it is just 25 minutes by car from Castelnuovo along the SS 324. At the hotel - restaurant you can rent equipment for alpine and nordic skiing, including snow boots.

- 8 km of tracks for cross-country skiing, immersed in the woods
